Mileaters - Cerne Abbas Walk

Cerne Abbas Mileaters

19 walkers and 5 well behaved dogs had a really enjoyable 53/4 mile circular walk around Cerne Abbas. The first half was completed in  surprisingly short time considering the gradient climbed to get to the top of the ridge.

I would like to say that the views from up there, across the Blackmore Vale, were spectacular. However, low cloud and mist meant that the viewing distances were reduced drastically.

Coffee was taken on the ridge, at a point directly above Minterne House, before our descent into Minterne Magna itself. From there it was up the opposite ridge which took a little longer than the first ascent not because it was steep but because of the excessive intense conversations and joviality taking place.

Up Cerne, a tiny hamlet was passed and admired for its lovely Manor House and then proceeding past the old Work House which is now a residential home.

At the Giant’s viewing our suspicious looking group attracted the attention of the local constabulary who questioned us about whether we wanted him to take a photo. We said “Yes” on one condition that it didn’t appear on ‘Crime Watch’ and secondly it was nice for Lesley P to be in a photo for once instead of behind the lens.

The best part of the walk for me was “The Giant Pub” which provided an excellent lunch with good service at a very reasonable cost.

Waste Watch Scheme
- operating in the village.

Although papers can be separated and recycled with the bi-weekly refuse collection this scheme means that the local parish can financially benefit from separate treatment of newspapers.

There are two collection points each located at the Parish Office and the car park of the Village Hall by means of a green bin or box.

Your used newspapers and magazines can be bundled into manageable piles and securely tied with sturdy string. Newspapers and magazines should be bundled separately but can be placed in the same boxes and are regularly collected.

Please use this method of recycling where possible as credit is received via the current scheme to the parish for use towards local matters.
