On Thursday 3rd December at around 0810 hours, an assault took place when a passing cyclist spat into the face of a local resident. The matter has been reported to the police who are treating the matter very seriously and attempting to identify the assailant, who was a white male in his early thirties, full dark beard, roughly 6ft tall and riding an orange and green mountain bike. It is believed this cyclist travels through Martinstown from the direction of Winterbourne Abbas regularly. If you have any information that may help identify this cyclist, please contact PC Katherine Hann (6268) at Dorset Police on 101.
Martinstown Circle Suppers
Despite the limitations that Covid has brought, this year the Martinstown Circle Supper group are proud to say that we are able to give a cheque for £1000 to our nominated charity for 2020, the Dorset County Hospital Chemotherapy Appeal.
This is because we were able to host our first round of suppers in January and February, and also hold a clothes swap at the beginning of this year and a very successful produce sale in October.
For those of you who are new to the village, Martinstown Circle Suppers are a supper group where friends in the village take it in turns to host and be guests in each others homes. Hosts provide a meal and guests pay for their supper, and this way we raise money for a local charity. Over the past five years we have raised money to support four different local organisations, charities or national charities with a local connection.
In addition to the suppers the group organises two or three additional fund raising activities during the year;amongst which we have had barn dances, a car treasure hunt, race night, quiz and a 60’s night. We have a walking treasure hunt ready to roll out when the restrictions are lifted and plenty of other ideas for 2021.
We have decided to continue to raise funds for the local hospital chemotherapy appeal in 2021, and if you would like to be included in the suppers, or just have a conversation about what we do, please call either myself Cathie Seigal 01305 889244, Richard Benson 889466 or Roelie Newman 889192

Please help us to keep Scouting going...
To raise funds for Scout Groups within the Dorchester & West Dorset District. Their Scout Post cancelled this Christmas due to Covid-19.
With the relaxation of some restrictions, we are now able to open the church for private prayer. The doors will therefore be open between 10:30am and 12:00 every morning Monday to Friday.
In order to maintain social distancing regulations and to reduce the dailing cleaning requirement, there will be restrictions as to which parts of the building and which pews you can access. We do not anticipate significant numbers wanting to visit at any one time, but please observe social distancing and other appropriate measures to ensure one another's safety and well being.
*As at 26th March 2020. Announcement on the First Group bus services from Sunday 29 March. There will be no X51 service at all until further notice.
Waste Watch Scheme - operating in the village.
Although papers can be separated and recycled with the bi-weekly refuse collection this scheme means that the local parish can financially benefit from separate treatment of newspapers.
There are two collection points each located at the Parish Office and the car park of the Village Hall by means of a green bin or box.
Your used newspapers and magazines can be bundled into manageable piles and securely tied with sturdy string. Newspapers and magazines should be bundled separately but can be placed in the same boxes and are regularly collected.
Please use this method of recycling where possible as credit is received via the current scheme to the parish for use towards local matters.
