ABOUT THE PARISH COUNCIL

Winterborne St Martin Parish Council meets on the last Wednesday of each month (excluding April, September and December) in the Magna Community Room in Manor Grove, meetings commence at 7pm unless otherwise stated. Dates are published on this site.

The Annual Parish Meeting will be held on a date in April each year.

Councillors will serve for a period of five years from the full Council election in May 2019. Where casual vacancies occur during this five year period an election can be held at the request of at least 10 electors or additional Members can be co-opted to ensure the Council has enough Members to undertake its responsibilities.

Councillors may hold additional roles of responsibility as nominated from time to time. The following matters within the Parish can be addressed with the listed councillors. Numbers to contact are listed on this page along with the e-mail address of the Parish Council.

An agenda for an upcoming meeting will be published in the week preceding the meeting on this Web-site and on the notice boards in the village.

All meetings of the Parish Council are open to the public and each meeting includes a democratic period giving people who attend the opportunity to raise any matters direct with the Parish Council.

Local planning matters are directed to the Parish Council via the Parish Clerk and considered at the regular meetings.

Local Government

The Parish is in the area of Dorset Council. This is a new Unitary Authority replacing both Dorset County Council and West Dorset District Council. Elections to this new authority will take place on 2nd May 2019.

South Winterbourne Community Flood Action Group
A SELF HELP community group formed in October 2013 whose aim is to help lessen the impact of flooding in the beautiful South Winterbourne valley by co-ordinating the efforts of the village communities, riparian owners, parish councils and larger land owners/farmers to maintain the existing infrastructure in the best possible condition whilst observing and safeguarding the ecology and wildlife.

Flood Risk management
Weed/vegetation collection and silt removal from the river bed


The Parish Council have again agreed to contribute to the reduction in flood risk in the village.
We have arranged for the weed/vegetation to be taken away from the edge of the river bank.
The PC respectfully request that all riparian owners carry out the clearing of their sections before the 7th September so this work can be carried out.

In October the contractor will also be carrying out silt clearance, if the weed has not been cleared the contractor will not be able to reach the river bed to clear the silt build up and not be able to clear silt outside your property.
